Philanthropy
In November 2011, Bharti donated $10 million to Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. The contribution represented one of the largest donations in the university’s history and supported engineering education, research, academic infrastructure, and student development initiatives.
In recognition of the donation, Laurentian University renamed its engineering school the Bharti School of Engineering.
The donation reinforced Bharti’s longstanding connection to engineering education, mining, and technical training within Canada’s resource sector.
Bharti and his family also established the Bharti Charitable Foundation, which supports initiatives related to environmental preservation, endangered species protection, cultural preservation, education, and humanitarian causes.
The foundation’s activities include support for wildlife and environmental initiatives as well as charitable and educational programs connected to long-term community and social development.
Some of the organizations the Bharti Charitable Foundation has donated to include:
- World Vision Canada
- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
- Habitat for Humanity China
- Aga Khan Foundation Canada
- WildAid Canada
- Toronto People With AIDS Foundation
- Street Kids International
- The END Fund
- The Remix Project

Bharti’s philanthropic activities remain focused on education, environmental stewardship, charitable support, and initiatives with lasting community impacts.
